I just did what I said I would never do. I agreed to help out as a partial room mom for my son’s 3rd grade class. I think it was the whole not being involved at all in school last year that made me suck it up and say yes. But I’m quickly realizing that a lot of my favorite Halloween games and Halloween treats like peanut butter spider cookies are ones that may not work so well in a small classroom with 21 kids. So I’m coming up with new ideas that do work for classroom parties! And they also work if you’re looking for regular Halloween party ideas too of course! After making my witch Halloween dessert board a couple of years ago, I’ve been a little obsessed with all things witches. So I thought it would be fun to make uber colorful chocolate witch hats as a treat for this year’s classroom party! I mean what kid doesn’t love a cookie with sprinkles on top?

Super easy – these couldn’t be any easier! No baking, no cooking, no rolling, nothing. The cookies are already done, you’re just going to add the hat part! Fun for kids – you could actually do this as an activity with kids if you want. Give them the ingredients they need and let them make their own witch hat cookies, kind of like I did with these monster cookies! Customizable – change up the color of the frosting and the sprinkles and these can work for any Halloween party theme, colors, etc.

Frosting – I just used store-bought frosting for these, colored orange with a little food coloring. You could use any color frosting, chocolate frosting, or even make your own frosting. The frosting I use for these cream cheese sugar cookies would be great! Halloween sprinkles – I recommend doing the little ball ones or nonpareils (the long classic sprinkle looking ones) rather than bigger custom Halloween sprinkles. The regular ones just stay on much better!
How to Make Witch Hat Cookies
Okay so I already mentioned how easy these are so I’ll keep this short and sweet! Start by flipping over all of your Fudge Stripe Cookies. I typically like to do this on a baking sheet with parchment paper but you could also do this on the tray you’re going to serve the cookies on so you don’t have to transfer them so much. Using a knife or the back of a spoon, add a little dob of frosting on the bottom of a chocolate kiss. You want there to be enough frosting to act like a glue but not so much that it looks really messy. You want there to be a nice ring around the outside of the chocolate kiss. Press the chocolate kiss onto the top of the cookie firmly, right over the hole in the middle of the cookie. Try to press straight down rather than wiggle it around so that you get a nice frosting look, not a big smear of frosting. If you need more frosting around the edge of the kiss, put some of the frosting into a plastic bag or into a piping bag and pipe a ring around the chocolate kiss. Carefully add sprinkles onto the frosting, adding color and style to each of your witch hat cookies! This is where you can get really creative and just have fun with it! You could even do different colors of frosting if you want to get crazy! Let the frosting on the cookies dry and enjoy eating these yummy witch hat cookies you made!
Expert Tips
Store in an airtight container (ideally a taller one, not a plastic bag) for up to a week. After a week throw away! Make this an activity that lasts a while by having kids add sprinkles carefully using kitchen tweezers, chopsticks, or individually with their little fingers! This also means less mess! Store cookies in a cool place at room temperature or if your house is too warm, in the refrigerator. If doing a Halloween party outside when temperatures are warm, place these on a plate on top of a bed of ice or ice packs.
